Stewed Dried Fruit Compote


Gather together your favorite dried fruits:

  • prunes
  • apricots
  • apples
  • raisins
  • pears etc.
leave out dates and figs.
Place about a pound in a good sized pan and cover with water. Slice a well-scrubbed lemon or orange in thin rounds and add. Bring to boil and simmer for about an hour. Traditionally, you should serve this in small cut-glass compote dishes.
It's a great sweetener for pan cakes.


Fresh Banana Sauce



The way of the banana are such that this flavorful sauce should be eaten right away. Try it with Pancakes.

4 ripe bananas
1/4 cup raisins
1 orange, peeled
1/4 cup boiling water
Juice of 1 lemon

Pour boiling water over raisins and let stand until raisins are plump. Combine all ingredients in blender and puree until smooth.

Makes 1&1/2 cups.
